How Do Alexa Hunch Work?

Alexa Hunches is just another Amazon product designed to make your life easier. If enabled, Alexa can perform tasks on your behalf with your permission when you enable this feature.

Alexa does not perform random tasks. Instead, with the help of the smart assistant, you can make informed decisions about your routines, habits, and requests.

For example, when you say “Alexa, goodnight,” it will turn off the Alexa-paired lights in your kitchen. If it thinks you forgot to turn them off, it will ask you if you want to turn them off. It won’t turn off your lights if you don’t say anything, so make sure you say “yes.”

In the morning, lock your front door before leaving for work. Alexa will ask you if you want to lock the front door if you normally close it before you leave for work but forget to do so this time. Be sure to respond by saying “yes.” Alexa must be activated in the app and not locked.

As we will explain below, Alexa will always ask for permission before performing any task unless you give her permission to act independently.

You can use Alexa Hunches with everything Alexa-connected in your home, including lights, plugs, locks, and thermostats. You’ll receive an alert from Alexa if any of your devices aren’t working as expected. Alexa will then ask you how you would like to proceed from there, for example, rebooting the device.

How to Enable or Disable Alexa Hunches

Alexa automatically enables Hunches in the app by default.

The Alexa app can be turned on or off by tapping “More” at the bottom of the screen. Select “Settings.”

Choose “Hunts” near the bottom of the page.

Hunches are enabled by default when the switch is blue. On the left, it says “Enabled.”

Users can turn off hunches by tapping the grey switch. You will also see “Disabled” on the left.

How to Allow Alexa Hunches to Work Automatically

Alexa can make hunches automatically if you’re satisfied with them–without your permission.

Go to the Alexa app first. At the bottom of the screen, tap more and choose “Settings.” Next, scroll down near the bottom and select “Hunts.” Finally, tap “Set Up Automatic Actions.”

From here, you can choose all of the hunches Alexa should act upon automatically, which makes life easier for you.

It’s that simple! Also, the people who live in the home should be made aware of Alexa’s hunches to be surprised when the lights turn off by themselves.
